We’ve been languishing in the lower half of the League for the past couple of weeks, no thanks to our awful results. Why awful? Well, we did play well enough to win or at least get a draw but nope, we have to lose…
Momo pushing Andy Johnson, scorer of 2 goals in this match
First was the bad 0-3 reversal at Stanley Park due to bad mistakes by our usually reliable defence. Even Carragher made a blooper of clearance to gift Andy Johnson the 3rd goal (but he still has work to do to put the ball into the net).
Oops careful Zenden.. that’s studs up! 😦
This was followed by blanks at Philips Stadium (vs PSV Eindhoven in the CL Group Match). While PSV usually did well at home, they were there for the taking. We created enough chances but were simply not clinical enough.
An away match to Chelsea followed… never an easy match with Chelsea, more so when it’s in Stamford Bridge. But we actually played much better than them in that match…. the stats said it all.
Chelsea had 1 shot on target, Liverpool 6. The final score? Chelsea 1 Liverpool 0.
Not to take anything away from Drogba’s wonderful spin-n-shot goal but had we taken 1/3 of the chances that fell our way, we could have left with all 3 points.
Yeah, Kuyt’s early effort hit the upper bar. Can’t blame him, Liverpool has been hitting the bars so often in the last few matches!
Harper (Newcastle keeper) lunging desperately for the ball
But we finally got a win back under our belt against the Toons last evening. A first goal for Kuyt and an excellent 60-yarder from Alonso capped a good evening for the boys.
Let’s keep this up!
